Christopher Abbott is reportedly set to play Charles Xavier in Marvel’s X-Men reboot ahead of a possible D23 reveal

Christopher Abbott has reportedly been cast as Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot.

According to ComicBookMovie.com, the casting has not been officially confirmed by Marvel, but reports suggest Abbott could be announced as the iconic mutant leader during D23. The potential reveal comes as Marvel prepares to share more details about its plans for the next generation of X-Men characters.

Abbott, 40, previously appeared in a Marvel-related project, playing The Foreigner in Sony Pictures’ Kraven the Hunter. His other credits include Poor Things, Wolfman, Bring Them Down and the television series Catch-22.

The reported casting follows recent rumours that Marvel had already selected an actor to portray Professor X and that the performer had previously appeared in a Marvel project.

If the report is accurate, Abbott would join a developing cast that reportedly includes Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Kit Connor as Cyclops and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. The reboot is expected to introduce the original X-Men lineup, including Cyclops, Beast, Jean Grey, Iceman and Angel. Other mutants such as Rogue, Storm and possibly Jubilee could also appear.

The film’s screenplay remains in development. Sonny Lee Sung Jin, known for Beef, and Joanna Calo of The Bear recently joined the project to work on a new draft of Michael Lesslie’s script.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously described the X-Men as a major long-term priority for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has indicated that the studio wants to explore the wider mutant universe rather than focusing solely on established characters such as Wolverine.

With the MCU’s X-Men reboot still in development, fans will have to wait for an official announcement before Abbott’s reported casting can be confirmed.
