Father, two relatives held over alleged murder of newlywed

Police claimed to have arrested the father and two relatives of a 25-year-old woman who allegedly killed her after she married a man of her choice. The family attempted to portray the death as an electrocution incident.

The incident occurred in Mehr Shah within the jurisdiction of Sadar Khanewal Police Station. According to police, the woman, identified as Iqra, had married a young man named Sohail three days before her death against her family's wishes.

Police said Iqra's father, angered by the marriage, allegedly brought her back from her in-laws' home on the pretext of formally sending her off from his house.

According to the FIR, he allegedly strangled her with the help of his brother and son after bringing her home.

The woman's husband alleged that the family subsequently staged the scene to make it appear that she had died from an electric shock.

Police took Iqra's father, Falak Sher, into custody and registered a case. Her body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Sadar police SHO Ramzan Gul said Falak Sher had been arrested and that investigators were awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause and circumstances of death.

The SHO said preliminary investigation suggested that the father could be the main suspect and that investigators were examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged strangulation.

He said the investigation would be completed after the post-mortem findings were received.
