Emilia Jones lands lead role in Netflix’s 'The Retrievals' limited series

Emilia Jones has been cast in the lead role of Netflix’s upcoming limited series The Retrievals, an adaptation of the New York Times and Serial Productions podcast of the same name.

The Netflix series is based on the true story of IVF patients who discovered they had undergone painful egg retrieval procedures without proper anaesthesia after a nurse stole fentanyl from a Yale University clinic.

Jones will play Gabby Clemente, a New Haven bartender and student teacher whose life changes after experiencing a traumatic egg retrieval procedure. After learning that a nurse at the clinic had been stealing large quantities of fentanyl, Gabby begins searching for other patients who may have been affected.

Her efforts eventually lead to a major legal battle against Yale University, bringing together a community of IVF patients seeking accountability.

The Retrievals was first announced as a Netflix project in May. Molly Smith Metzler serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer on the limited series.

Colin McKenna, Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie will executive produce for LuckyChap, alongside Caitlin Roper of the New York Times and Susan Burton, who hosted the original podcast. Lila Neugebauer will direct the pilot and executive produce.

The project marks Jones’ return to Netflix after she starred as Kinsey Locke in the streamer’s supernatural drama Locke & Key for three seasons. She is also set to appear in Netflix films The 99’ers and Bad Bridgets.

Jones recently appeared in the HBO series Task and has built a film career with roles in CODA, The Running Man and the upcoming Anthony Bourdain biopic Tony.
