Amy Sedaris lands new role alongside Ben Stiller in Apple TV’s 'Protective Custody'

Amy Sedaris has joined the cast of Apple TV’s upcoming comedy series Protective Custody, adding another familiar name to the project led by Ben Stiller and featuring Benicio Del Toro.

Sedaris will appear as a series regular alongside Stiller, who stars in the show, and Del Toro, whose role remains undisclosed. Apple TV has not revealed details about Sedaris’ character.

Protective Custody follows a disgraced financier, played by Stiller, who is accused of committing massive financial fraud. After being placed in protective custody, he must navigate prison politics while attempting to repair his damaged reputation and deal with the consequences of his actions as he awaits trial.

The series is being developed as a comedy, with Mike Judge, Steve Hely and Dave King writing the show. The trio will also serve as executive producers and co-showrunners, while Judge is attached to direct.

Stiller will executive produce through Red Hour, with John Lesher also producing for the company. Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Rodney Ferrell will executive produce for Propagate Content, while Michael Rotenberg and Oly Obst will serve as executive producers for 3 Arts Entertainment. Nanette Burstein is also an executive producer.

Apple Studios is producing the series.

Sedaris is best known for creating and starring in the cult comedy Strangers with Candy. Her other television credits include At Home with Amy Sedaris and BoJack Horseman. She has also appeared in films including Jennifer’s Body, Puss in Boots and Elf.

The actress has frequently collaborated with Jon Favreau, appearing in projects including Chef, the live-action The Lion King, The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. She is also set to appear in Favreau’s upcoming Disney+ series Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
