'How Long Gone' is turning its cult podcast into an awards show

The popular culture podcast How Long Gone is launching its own awards show, with the inaugural edition of “The Goneies” set to take place in New York City this September.

Hosted by Chris Black and Jason Stewart, the event will be held on Sept. 15 at Racket NYC in Manhattan. A limited number of tickets are scheduled to go on sale at 9 a.m. ET.

“The Goneies” will feature celebrity guests, surprise music performances and an all-star house band led by Grammy-winning producer Brad Cook, known for his work with artists including Waxahatchee and Bon Iver.

Details about the award categories and nominees have not yet been announced. However, the event is expected to reflect the irreverent cultural perspective that has helped How Long Gone build a dedicated audience.

In a statement, Black and Stewart described the event as a gathering of musicians, actors, media personalities and other figures from contemporary pop culture. They also joked that the awards would recognise people for “merit and high achievement” regardless of whether they regularly listen to the podcast.

“The Goneies” is the latest expansion of the How Long Gone brand, which has grown beyond its podcast format to include live shows, parties and red-carpet events. The podcast has released more than 1,000 episodes since its launch.

Talkhouse, which presents the awards show, is also behind the podcast's expanding media operations. Talkhouse founder Ian Wheeler said “The Goneies” is, to their knowledge, the first cultural awards show presented by a podcast.

The event will give Black and Stewart an opportunity to bring their podcast community together for an evening celebrating music, entertainment, media and internet culture in Manhattan.
