Pakistan, Belarus to deepen cooperation

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz to discuss bilateral economic relations, trade and investment, the finance ministry said on Wednesday.

The minister welcomed the Belarusian delegation and highlighted the importance of expanding commercial ties and investment flows. Both sides discussed industrial cooperation, agriculture, education and culture.

Aurangzeb reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to working closely with Belarusian counterparts to translate engagement into concrete outcomes. Moroz expressed confidence that continued coordination would facilitate bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation. The meeting was attended by Secretary Economic Affairs, Belarusian Ambassador Andrei Metelitsa, First Deputy Minister of Industry Viktor Shchetko, Director of Department Andrei Prokopchuk and National Bank official Viktor Nikitin.

Separately, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus Yakovchits Aleksander to explore new avenues for cooperation in agriculture, food security, trade, investment and agricultural technology.

Both sides agreed to encourage greater participation of enterprises in food exhibitions and agricultural trade fairs in both countries to showcase products and develop partnerships. They also agreed to facilitate online business-to-business sessions in seafood, citrus fruits, mangoes, fruit puree, vegetables, seeds and dairy products to connect businesses and promote trade. Reciprocal visits of trade and business delegations were also agreed to promote partnerships and investment opportunities.

The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in fish farming through exchange of knowledge, technology and best practices. They also agreed to facilitate mutual export of seeds to strengthen agricultural trade. Pakistan proposed establishing a universal agricultural machinery testing facility at the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council with Belarusian financial and technical support. Both sides agreed to undertake a detailed assessment, including preparation of a list of necessary equipment and suitability of sites. Exchange visits of technical experts were agreed by end of 2026. The countries also agreed to explore capacity-building cooperation between plant quarantine organisations.
