Homer Gere reveals Kaia Gerber's two-word reaction when he brought up their parents' marriage

Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber didn't shy away from the fact that their parents were once married when they first met on the set of The Shards.

Gere, 26, revealed that he brought up the unusual connection with Gerber, 24, just 20 minutes after they met while working on Ryan Murphy's adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' The Shards. His father's marriage to Gerber's mother is hardly a secret: Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford were married from 1991 to 1995.

"Twenty minutes into knowing each other, I was like, 'Should we just acknowledge the fact that our parents were married?'" Homer recalled in a joint Vogue profile with Gerber. Her response was simple: "Yeah. Cool." And that was it.

The two are now starring together in The Shards, with Gere playing Robert Mallory and Gerber portraying Susan Reynolds. Despite their parents' history, the pair quickly developed a close friendship while working on the series.

Gerber previously said she had never met Homer before they began filming, meeting him about a week before production started. She described him as "such a joy to work with" and "such a lovely person", adding that she could not have picked a better scene partner.

Homer similarly said their parents' past did not make their relationship particularly strange from their perspective.

"From the inside, it's really normal," he told E! News. "We just became friends as coworkers before we started working and she's become a really close friend. It's been lovely working with her."

While Cindy Crawford later married Rande Gerber and welcomed Kaia and her brother Presley, Richard Gere went on to marry Carey Lowell, with whom he shares Homer, before marrying Alejandra Silva.

For Homer, The Shards marks his first major acting role, and he previously revealed that his father offered him advice about working on set before he took on the role.
