Brad Pitt's appearance at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding has taken on a new significance after the actor revealed that he had resumed drinking following seven years of sobriety. Pitt was reportedly seen drinking at the couple's July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden, weeks before he publicly discussed the decision in a candid Esquire interview.

According to Page Six, guests at the star-studded celebration were surprised to see Pitt drinking because the actor had been open about his sobriety for years. A source told the publication that Pitt was seen consuming alcohol during the wedding, where he attended with his girlfriend Ines de Ramon. At the time, however, Pitt had not publicly announced that he had returned to drinking.

That detail now stands out following his newly published conversation with Esquire. During the interview, Pitt confirmed that his seven-year period of sobriety had ended. He explained that he had started drinking again but was approaching alcohol differently from the past.

"I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon," Pitt said. He described his current drinking as being done "in a more restrained manner", adding that he had become overconfident a couple of times before recognising that drinking heavily was not suitable for him.

Pitt also explained that his current approach involves knowing his limits. He said he can have a few drinks but cannot have a large amount, adding that he has to be "professional about it". The comments mark a significant change from the public sobriety journey he had discussed since giving up alcohol.

The timing of the wedding sighting makes the July celebration particularly notable. Pitt was reportedly drinking in front of fellow celebrity guests before he had publicly explained that his relationship with alcohol had changed. His later interview effectively provided the context that was missing when those wedding observations first emerged.

Swift and Kelce's wedding brought together a huge collection of entertainment industry names at Madison Square Garden. Pitt attended alongside de Ramon, adding his name to a guest list that included figures from film, music and sport. The wedding was held on July 3 and quickly became one of the year's biggest celebrity events.

Pitt's sobriety had previously been a well documented part of his personal story. He discussed giving up alcohol after a difficult period in his life and later spoke about attending recovery meetings. In 2019, he told that he had removed his "drinking privilege" and had committed himself to recovery. He subsequently credited the support of people in recovery with helping him maintain sobriety.

Pitt has stressed that his current relationship with alcohol is controlled and limited, rather than a return to his previous habits. He acknowledged that he had tested those boundaries and realised when he had gone too far. His comments suggest that the actor sees awareness of those limits as central to how he approaches drinking now.
