Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its record-breaking box office run, earning an estimated $145 million in North America during its second weekend, according to Variety.

The Marvel and Sony blockbuster now ranks as the third-biggest second weekend in box office history, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned $149 million in 2015, and Avengers: Endgame, which collected $147 million in 2019.

Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened with a record $355 million domestically and $932 million worldwide. After its second weekend, the superhero movie has reached approximately $655 million in North America and $1.67 billion globally. The film crossed the $1 billion worldwide milestone within six days and is now being viewed as a potential contender to reach $2 billion.

The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matt Damon, remained in second place with $31.5 million during its fourth weekend. The epic has earned $461 million domestically and $1.1 billion worldwide, making it Nolan’s highest-grossing movie.

Meanwhile, Universal’s romantic comedy One Night Only, starring Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro, opened in third place with $5.7 million from 3,012 theatres. Super Troopers 3 followed with $4 million, while Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man debuted with $2 million.

Several limited releases performed strongly, including A24’s Tony, which earned $348,955 across six screens for an impressive $58,159 per location.

Despite several new releases entering theatres, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains the dominant force at the box office and is expected to retain the top spot next weekend.
