Pak-Germany trade gap under focus
A Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry delegation has visited Germany to explore new avenues for trade and investment, with the LCCI president stressing that the existing trade volume between the two countries does not reflect the true potential of the relationship.
The delegation, led by President Faheemur Rehman Saigol, visited the Bergische Chamber of Industry and Commerce Wuppertal-Solingen-Remscheid as part of its ongoing Europe Trade Mission, the LCCI spokesman told media on Saturday.
The delegation held a meeting with Arft Jasper Rust, Officer of the International Division at the Bergische Chamber, who handles foreign trade, general trade and services. Discussions focused on strengthening business-to-business linkages, promoting Pakistani exports and identifying opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries.
Saigol highlighted the importance of stronger institutional and business-level cooperation between Pakistan and Germany. He said Germany, as one of Europe's major industrial and economic centres, offers significant opportunities for Pakistani businesses, particularly in exports, industrial cooperation, technology transfer, investment and joint ventures.
He emphasised that closer interaction between chambers of commerce and business communities of the two countries could play an important role in identifying potential areas of cooperation and creating sustainable commercial partnerships.
Saigol said Pakistan has a wide range of products and services with significant potential in the European market and stressed the need to further facilitate market access, enhance business contacts and promote Pakistani products among international buyers. He observed that the existing trade volume between Pakistan and Germany does not reflect the true potential of the relationship and that both sides must work together to unlock new opportunities across multiple sectors of the economy.
Rust shared his perspective on foreign trade and business opportunities and discussed the potential for increased interaction between the business communities of Pakistan and the Bergisches region of Germany. The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on the business environment, trade relations and possible areas of mutual cooperation.
Members of the LCCI delegation participated in the discussions and highlighted the potential of their respective sectors. They expressed keen interest in developing direct business contacts with German companies and exploring opportunities for trade, investment, technology cooperation and joint ventures.
The delegation emphasised that visits of this nature provide an effective platform for Pakistani businesses to understand international markets, establish direct contacts with foreign counterparts and develop long-term commercial relationships.
The delegation noted that Pakistan's textile, engineering, pharmaceutical and information technology sectors offer particular opportunities for collaboration with German companies. The LCCI Europe Trade Mission aims to expand Pakistan's international trade and investment linkages through direct engagement with chambers, institutions and companies across Europe. The delegation is expected to visit additional cities and business centres during its ongoing mission.
