Reese Witherspoon updates on father's health after hospitalisation from fall

Reese Witherspoon has provided an update on her father, John Witherspoon, after reports that he was hospitalised following a fall.

The Oscar-winning actress addressed the reports in a statement shared on her Instagram Stories on Friday, August 7, saying her 84-year-old father was doing well.

"Earlier today, several outlets reported that my dad was taken to the hospital after a fall," Witherspoon wrote. "I want to let everyone know that he is fine now. He is being taken care of by wonderful doctors and nurses."

Witherspoon also thanked people who had contacted her family after reports of her father's hospitalisation emerged.

"Thank you to everyone who reached out," she wrote. "It means the world to our family."

Additional details about the circumstances of the fall or her father's treatment were not provided by Witherspoon.

Page Six reported that John Witherspoon was hospitalised after reportedly being found near the pool at his condominium building in Nashville.

The outlet, citing an unnamed source, said another resident spotted him lying face-down on the pool deck before alerting building staff.

John Witherspoon is a retired otolaryngologist who previously served in the U.S. Army. During the Vietnam War era, the Witherspoon family lived in Wiesbaden, Germany, for four years while he was stationed there as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve.

Witherspoon's latest statement did not provide further information about her father's condition beyond confirming that he is "fine now".
