GTA 6 Netflix special aims to target players not planning to buy game at launch
Rockstar's GTA 6 Netflix special will be show-like and aims to reach viewers beyond game's core audience

Rockstar Games' upcoming Netflix special for Grand Theft Auto VI will aim to reach audiences beyond existing fans, including people who are not currently planning to buy the game on launch day.
Rockstar announced on August 6 that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere exclusively on Netflix at 3pm ET on August 27.
The presentation will remain exclusive to the streaming service for six hours before appearing on Rockstar's YouTube channel and GTA 6 website at 9pm ET.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has provided more details about the unusual distribution strategy.
During a Bloomberg Breakdown interview, reporter Jason Schreier asked Zelnick whether the presentation would feel like watching a Netflix show.
"Yes," Zelnick replied.
Zelnick said viewers would understand why Rockstar chose Netflix once the special premieres, describing it as a "must-see event".
Schreier explained that the strategy is designed to introduce GTA 6 to audiences beyond its established gaming fanbase.
This includes Netflix viewers who may not regularly play games and people interested in GTA 6 who are not planning to purchase it on launch day.
Netflix has similarly highlighted the partnership's wider ambitions, describing it as "the next generation of storytelling and content on Netflix".
Brandon Riegg, Netflix's vice president of nonfiction series, said the platform wants to become a place where "the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience."
Rockstar has not confirmed what the extended look will contain.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
