'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' dominates second weekend as 'The Odyssey' nears $500m

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is continuing its record-breaking run at the box office, with the Marvel blockbuster on course for another dominant weekend in North America. The Tom Holland-led sequel is projected to earn around $43 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to roughly $350 million.

The film's strong hold comes after an enormous opening weekend, when Brand New Day became one of the biggest domestic launches in Hollywood history. Its latest performance further establishes the film as one of the year's biggest theatrical successes.

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is holding in second place, earning $8.8 million on its fourth Friday in North American cinemas. The epic is expected to add around $28 million over the weekend, pushing its domestic total closer to the $500 million mark.

The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, has maintained a strong theatrical run despite facing competition from the latest Spider-Man movie. Nolan's adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic has also benefited from premium-format screenings, including IMAX, which have helped drive its impressive box-office performance.

The battle between the two blockbusters highlights the strength of the summer movie season, with Brand New Day dominating the current marketplace while The Odyssey continues to attract audiences several weeks after its release.
