Netflix acquires ‘Canopy’, a horror thriller about a deadly Amazon predator
Netflix acquires Brandon Feldman’s ‘Canopy’, a creature feature about a botanist facing a deadly Amazon predator

Netflix has acquired Canopy, an upcoming horror-thriller creature feature screenplay by writer Brandon Feldman, in a pre-emptive deal reportedly worth six figures.
The project follows a botanist whose search for a rare medical cure in the Amazon rainforest turns into a fight for survival.
According to Deadline, the screenplay was acquired before a wider bidding process could take place, with Verve handling the auction. Netflix representatives declined to comment on the deal.
Canopy centres on a botanist who ventures into the uncharted Amazon canopy in search of a rare medical cure. Her mission takes a terrifying turn when a local village offers her as a sacrifice to an undiscovered apex predator. Forced to survive in a dangerous and unfamiliar environment, she must confront the deadly creature while navigating the threats of the rainforest.
The project has been compared to survival thrillers such as Apex, Predator and The Shallows, suggesting a mix of creature horror, suspense and high-stakes survival. However, further details about the film’s cast, director and production schedule have not yet been announced.
Adam Goodman and Matt Skiena of Dichotomy are attached to produce the film. The producers acquired the screenplay after it began attracting attention when it appeared on The Black List website, a platform known for highlighting promising unproduced screenplays.
Feldman is also developing other projects in Hollywood. His romantic comedy Marriage Material, co-written with Ben Agron and starring Emma Roberts and Matt Rife, is set up with BuzzFeed Studios and Capstone Pictures. The writing duo have also been hired to develop another romantic comedy for Storyboard Entertainment.
Additionally, Feldman has optioned scripts to Rebel Way Entertainment, Minds Eye Entertainment and Belga Studios. He is represented by Verve, John Dunne at Independent Artists Media, and Mitchel Ostrove at Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
Netflix has yet to announce further details about Canopy, including its release date.
