Mads Mikkelsen is among the notable names joining the cast of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, with the Danish actor set to portray the game's central antagonist in the latest instalment of Activision's long-running military shooter franchise.

The casting brings together performers from film and television, including The Last of Us star Young Mazino, Shrinking actor Luke Tennie and Prisca Kim, known for her roles in Beef and Loot. The ensemble also includes returning voice actors from previous entries in the Modern Warfare series.

Mikkelsen, known for playing Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Hannibal Lecter in the television series Hannibal, will play a mysterious antagonist known as the Archer. The character is positioned as a major threat in the game's campaign, with the story involving the movement of a dangerous weapon and a wider international conflict.

Young Mazino, who earned recognition for playing Paul Cho in Netflix's Beef and Jesse in HBO's The Last of Us, takes on the role of Private Park Hyun Jun, a young South Korean soldier caught up in the conflict following North Korea's invasion of South Korea.

Luke Tennie, who plays Sean in Apple's Shrinking, joins the game as Lieutenant West. Prisca Kim is also part of the cast, alongside Lanny Joon and William Lipton. María Elisa Camargo returns as Valeria, while Barry Sloane reprises his role as Captain John Price, one of the franchise's most recognisable characters.

The casting process was led by Infinity Ward's narrative team, which initially had only a broad idea of the performers it wanted for the game. The studio's approach brought together established screen actors and performers whose previous work offered different strengths for the characters they would portray.

The new campaign follows two connected storylines. One centres on South Korea's struggle against a North Korean invasion, while another follows Price as he operates outside official military structures after the events of Modern Warfare 3. The returning characters and new additions are expected to play key roles as the two threads converge.

Mikkelsen's involvement was revealed in a campaign trailer released in September, giving fans their first look at the actor's appearance in the game. His casting also continues the franchise's tradition of bringing recognisable actors into its campaigns, following previous appearances by performers including Kit Harington, Idris Elba and Gary Oldman across the wider Call of Duty series.

Developed by Infinity Ward, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Players who pre-order the game can access its campaign early, beginning October 16.

With a cast spanning established film stars and television actors, Modern Warfare 4 is preparing to deliver another cinematic campaign while continuing the story of Price and introducing a new generation of characters to the franchise.
