The Beatles’ iconic Abbey Road crossing could return in Sam Mendes’ new films

Sam Mendes’ Beatles biopics will film at Abbey Road Studios, recreating iconic moments from the band’s legacy

Sam Mendes’ upcoming The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event is set to film scenes at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios, adding another authentic location to the highly anticipated biographical film series.

According to production sources, filming will take place this summer around Abbey Road and the famous recording studio, with approximately 80 extras and a collection of vintage vehicles expected to be used for scenes depicting 1960s London. Residents and businesses in the area have reportedly been notified about temporary road closures and traffic diversions during production.

The Beatles biopic project consists of four interconnected films, each focusing on one member of the legendary British band. The cast includes Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.

Abbey Road Studios holds a special place in the band's history. The Beatles recorded the majority of their catalogue there between 1962 and 1970, and the studio inspired the title of their final recorded album, Abbey Road. The location has also become one of the world's most recognised recording studios, contributing to the soundtracks of major film franchises including Star Wars, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.

The ensemble cast also features James Norton as Beatles manager Brian Epstein, Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Mia McKenna Bruce as Maureen Starkey, Harry Lawtey as Stuart Sutcliffe, Farhan Akhtar as Ravi Shankar, Lucy Boynton as Jane Asher and Morfydd Clark as Cynthia Lennon.

The screenplay is being written by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne. Sony Pictures plans to release The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event in April 2028.
