Nick Reiner to receive no additional privileges for birthday in jail

Nick Reiner will reportedly receive no special treatment as he spends his 33rd birthday in Los Angeles jail

Nick Reiner will reportedly receive no additional privileges when he celebrates his 33rd birthday behind bars at the Los Angeles Twin Towers Correctional Facility on September 14.

According to Page Six, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said birthdays are treated in the same way as any other day for inmates.

"Birthdays are treated like every other day, no special treatment from LASD," the spokesperson told the outlet.

The representative added that inmates can use phones during their scheduled times and that "There are no additional privileges for birthdays."

While jail staff will not provide special treatment, Nick's family and friends can reportedly arrange for birthday-related mail or packages to arrive through the facility's normal procedures.

"Inmates can still receive mail through normal channels and mail is inspected for any contraband before being given to the inmate," the spokesperson said.

"If there was anything birthday related, the onus would be on the inmate's family/friends/network to time the mail for it to arrive on the normal mail schedule."

Nick is also permitted to have visitors, and September 14 is reportedly a normal visiting day at the facility.

He may also be able to mark his birthday with snacks or other items purchased through the jail commissary, which offers sweets, desserts, snacks and beverages.

Nick has been held without bail since his arrest on December 14, 2025, after his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home in California.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said Nick was charged with two counts of murder with a special circumstance allegation involving multiple murders.

Prosecutors also alleged that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife.

According to Hochman, the killings allegedly occurred in the early morning hours before Nick fled the scene.

Nick's case remains ongoing. Hochman previously described Rob Reiner as "one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation" and said, "We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken."
