Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are reportedly preparing to marry in a ceremony on the Portuguese island of Madeira, the football icon's birthplace, according to multiple media reports from Portugal and the United Kingdom. While neither Ronaldo nor Rodriguez has publicly confirmed the wedding date or venue, local reports suggest preparations are already under way for what could become one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year.

According to reports, the couple are expected to exchange vows in Funchal, the capital of Madeira, where Ronaldo spent his childhood before beginning the journey that made him one of football's greatest players. The city's cathedral has reportedly been reserved for a major wedding ceremony on Saturday, August 8, with ceremonies traditionally beginning at 3pm. Although officials have not publicly identified the couple behind the booking, several reports have linked the reservation to Ronaldo and Rodriguez.

The celebrations are also expected to continue at the luxury Savoy Palace hotel in Funchal. Reports claim guests have been informed that two floors of the hotel, along with several bar areas, will be unavailable on Friday and Saturday because of a private event. Neither the hotel nor representatives for the couple have confirmed those reports.

Ronaldo, who now plays club football in Saudi Arabia, has maintained close ties to Madeira throughout his career. The island remains one of the places most closely associated with the Portugal captain, featuring a museum dedicated to his achievements, a statue in his honour and the airport that bears his name. Choosing Madeira as a wedding destination would therefore carry personal significance for the 41 year old footballer.

The couple began dating in 2016 after meeting in Madrid, where Rodriguez worked in luxury retail. Since then, they have built a family together and frequently shared moments from their lives on social media while attending major sporting and entertainment events around the world. They became engaged in August 2025 after Ronaldo proposed following nearly a decade together.

Wedding speculation intensified in recent weeks after the pair were photographed wearing striking diamond rings while boarding a yacht during a holiday in Majorca. The images fuelled rumours that the long awaited ceremony was approaching, although the couple remained publicly silent about their plans.

Ronaldo has previously spoken about his desire to marry Rodriguez after completing a major chapter in his international career. Before the recent FIFA World Cup, he told broadcaster Piers Morgan that he hoped to arrive at his wedding "with the champion's trophy." Portugal ultimately reached the tournament before being eliminated by eventual champions Spain, leading to renewed attention on the couple's future plans.
