Robert Pattinson earns fans' praise for Chris Hansen portrayal in A24 thriller 'Primetime'

Robert Pattinson stars as journalist Chris Hansen in Primetime, an A24 psychological thriller exploring the controversial world of hidden-camera predator sting television.

Directed by Lance Oppenheim, the film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 25, 2026. The first trailer was released on August 6, prompting a range of reactions from fans online.

One fan joked, “Batman catching Flash who was bullying Peter Parker,” referencing Pattinson’s role as Batman and other superhero characters.

The film follows Hansen during the rise of his controversial television series To Catch a Predator. After pitching the concept to Dateline NBC executives, Hansen sees the programme secure a primetime slot as its popularity grows.

As ratings increase, the story explores Hansen’s growing focus on making the programme successful and the ethical and legal questions surrounding the sting operations.

Skyler Gisondo plays Dan Plum, whose character is also involved in the psychological consequences of the high-pressure investigations. The film was written by Ajon Singh and takes a morally complex approach to televised true crime.

The cast includes Anna Faris as Mary Joan Hansen, Merritt Wever as an NBC producer and Phoebe Bridgers in an undisclosed role, marking her Hollywood debut.
