Perez Hilton reportedly told his mother, “I need help,” after being taken to a Miami hospital following an apparent self-harm livestream, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
An insider close to Hilton’s family told the outlet that the 48-year-old gossip blogger is “really suffering” and described him as “a man in a lot of pain”.
The source claimed Hilton was “stable and alert” and able to communicate with his mother, Teresita Lavandeira.
“But I don’t think he’s quite self-aware enough yet [to understand exactly what happened],” the insider reportedly said. “He’s still in a dark place as I understand it. Just very very sad.”
Hilton, whose birth name is Mario Lavandeira Jr, was taken to hospital late Tuesday after livestreaming what appeared to be a self-harm incident from his Miami home.
Audio from a 911 call reportedly described the incident as a “suicide attempt”.
According to the Daily Mail, Hilton’s family had an arrangement that his mother would take his three children away if he ever needed a break.
His sister, Barbara Lavandeira, also said the children and family members “immediately fled to protect” them from witnessing further trauma.
TikTok removed the livestream after 15 to 20 minutes, with the platform reportedly attributing the delay to a “moderator error”.
The source said Hilton had been “acting normal” before the incident and had been looking forward to new projects. “There was nothing specific that happened that anyone knows of,” they reportedly said.
