Pakistan, US talks focus on terror threats

Pakistan and the United States held the fourth round of their counterterrorism dialogue in Washington, where they discussed regional and global security issues and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation against terrorism, the Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.

Both the countries exchanged detailed views on evolving terrorist threats and measures to address them.

The talks were led by US Coordinator for Counterterrorism Ambassador Gregory LoGerfo and Foreign Ministry Special Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir.

The two sides reaffirmed their resolve to further enhance joint efforts in combating terrorism and agreed to deepen cooperation through sustained engagement in the counterterrorism domain, the FO spokesperson said.

Pakistan and the US also agreed to strengthen collaboration at multilateral forums to advance global counterterrorism efforts, the spokesperson said.

They affirmed their joint resolve to confront terrorist organisations that endanger the safety of their citizens and the stability of the region, including ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), al-Qa'eda (AQ), the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its affiliates.

The two governments committed to ensuring their counterterrorism collaboration to keep both of their nations safe and secure, and as part of an enduring vision of regional peace, prosperity, and stability.
