Rob Reiner's children paid an emotional tribute to their late parents by throwing the ceremonial first pitch before the Los Angeles Dodgers faced the Boston Red Sox, turning a day at the ballpark into a deeply personal celebration of family, memory and a lifelong love of baseball.
Jake Reiner, 35, and Romy Reiner, 28, took to the field wearing Dodgers jerseys with "Reiner" across the back in honour of their father, acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner, and their mother, photographer Michele Singer. The ceremony came several months after the couple were killed in December 2025.
Following the event, Jake shared an emotional message on social media explaining why the moment meant so much to his family. Reflecting on the Dodgers' place in their lives, he wrote, "The Dodgers have always been a huge part of our family. My dad and I could talk baseball for hours and I truly never felt closer to him than when we'd watch games together."
He continued by recalling the significance of Dodger Stadium throughout his childhood and adult life, describing it as a place where the family regularly gathered. "Dodger Stadium is a place we'd love to come to as a family," he wrote. "Romy and I wanted to honour our mom and dad by throwing out a ceremonial first pitch for each of them. We're grateful the Dodgers helped make this moment so special."
Jake, who co hosts the Dodgers focused podcast The Incline, has previously spoken about how baseball became one of the strongest bonds between father and son. In an essay published earlier this year, he explained that their relationship was built around countless conversations about the sport and years spent attending Dodgers games together.
"My connection with him was first built on baseball," Jake wrote. He described the sport as a family tradition passed down through generations, adding that he and his father attended numerous games together. He also shared that visiting Dodger Stadium in the future would always remind him of his father, recalling the discussions they had about the team's players and strategy.
The ceremony also arrived against the backdrop of an ongoing criminal case surrounding the deaths of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer. Authorities previously announced that the couple were found dead at their California home in December 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and legal proceedings remain ongoing.
Despite the tragedy that has surrounded the family, Jake and Romy's appearance at Dodger Stadium focused on remembrance rather than grief.
