Perez Hilton had faced serious health problems and financial pressure in the weeks before his recent, disturbing TikTok livestream incident, according to reports.

The celebrity blogger was hospitalised in March after developing an ulcer following the use of flu medication without food.

He subsequently developed severe sepsis. Hilton was later hospitalised again after developing deep vein thrombosis in his leg and underwent treatment to remove a blood clot, Newsweek reported.

Hilton later told followers that he planned to read the Bible for the first time and credited God with helping him through his health struggles.

"[God] did something that I can only describe as a miracle. I had been calling out to God for years, opening my heart and inviting Him and now I no longer need to have faith, I no longer need to hope to believe; I know that God is real and that God loves me," Hilton said in a social media video.

Weeks before the livestream incident, Hilton also promoted Christian merchandise to help cover his hospital expenses.

"You don't want to know how much I had to pay in hospital bills with insurance,” he said in a video. "That's why your boy is now in hustle mode."

He added, "I have all that I had to take care of, and I wasn't able to work for over a month, so I just dropped a new merch collection. I am obsessed with this."

The Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office told Newsweek it received "multiple calls" about the livestream. Deputies later chose to "tactically disengage" while monitoring the situation.
