Netflix unveils first look at 'Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story' and confirms release date

Netflix has officially announced the release date for Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the latest installment in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s hit Monster anthology series.

The highly anticipated true crime drama will premiere on September 17, with the streaming platform also unveiling the first official images from the series.

The new chapter stars Ella Beatty as the infamous Lizzie Borden, marking the anthology’s first female central figure. The cast also includes Vicky Krieps as Bridget Sullivan, Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden and Charlie Hunnam as Andrew Borden. Additional cast members include Billie Lourd, Sarah Paulson, Joey Pollari and Jessica Barden.

According to Netflix, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story explores the events surrounding the infamous axe murders that shocked America. The official synopsis follows Lizzie, the repressed daughter of a wealthy New England family, and her rebellious maid as they become trapped in a home marked by cruelty and repression. Their growing desire for freedom eventually leads to a series of brutal killings that forever change public perceptions of crime and justice.

The newly released first-look photos showcase a blood-covered Lizzie Borden, alongside key scenes featuring the supporting cast, offering an early glimpse at the dark tone of the upcoming limited series.

Lizzie Borden remains one of the most infamous figures in American criminal history. Her 1892 trial captivated the nation and has inspired numerous television series and films, including The Lizzie Borden Chronicles and the 2018 feature film Lizzie.

Created and written by Ian Brennan, the series is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Brennan, Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Louise Shore, Nissa Diederich, Todd Kubrak, Carl Franklin and Tanase Popa. Max Winkler and Sarah Adina Smith direct the new season.
