Rebecca Rittenhouse lands role in Hulu’s modern take on 'The Cable Guy'

Rebecca Rittenhouse has joined Hulu’s upcoming Cable Guy pilot, a new comedy series inspired by the 1996 Jim Carrey film of the same name.

The actress will star alongside Jake Johnson, Damon Wayans Jr., Natasha Rothwell and Crystal Fox in the project, which reimagines the original story for a modern audience.

Rittenhouse will play Robin, a woman who has recently ended her relationship with Steven, played by Wayans Jr., and is searching for clarity and direction in her life. The series follows Chip Douglas, an old-school cable technician portrayed by Johnson, who reconnects with his childhood friend Steven after being called to restore his cable service.

However, their renewed friendship takes a darker turn when Chip’s excitement becomes an unhealthy obsession. The Hulu comedy series will explore the complicated side of modern friendships in a world shaped by streaming platforms, online connections and digital algorithms.

Although based on the Jim Carrey-led The Cable Guy movie, the Hulu adaptation is not intended to be a direct remake. The creators have described the series as a fresh interpretation that pays tribute to the original film while creating a new story, similar to how Fargo expanded beyond its movie origins.

Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. will executive produce the series alongside Rob Rosell, Joe Piarulli and Luan Thomas, who serve as co-showrunners and co-writers of the pilot. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty are also executive producers. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Rittenhouse recently appeared in Netflix’s limited series His & Hers and previously starred in Hulu’s Maggie and Four Weddings and a Funeral. Her film credits include Babylon, Good on Paper and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
