Spider-Man screening in Colombia interrupted as 'fart attack' forces hundreds to evacuate cinema

A Spider-Man: Brand New Day screening in Cartagena, Colombia, was disrupted on Sunday night after a persistent foul smell caused hundreds of audience members to leave the cinema.

The incident occurred at the Cine Colombia multiplex inside Plaza Bocagrande shopping centre on August 2, approximately halfway through the film.

The source of the smell was not officially confirmed, although reports suggested it could have resulted from a stink bomb, fart spray or an audience member.

Footage shared on X by @ExxAlerts showed cinema-goers leaving the auditorium and covering their noses.

The account described the incident as an “ALERT: 'Horrific fart attack' sent moviegoers running out of the theater in the middle of the new 'Spider-Man.'”

According to the New York Post, cinema staff did not officially cancel the screening, while other auditoriums continued operating normally. No injuries were reported, and some viewers later attempted to return to the screening, although most reportedly missed the remainder of the film.

A person wearing a Spider-Man costume was also seen in footage standing among the crowd in the corridor before entertaining displaced viewers in the lobby.

The unusual incident comes as Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its strong box-office run.

The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film stars Tom Holland and Zendaya, alongside Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal and Liza Colón-Zayas.

The film earned $169.8 million on its opening day after taking $72 million in previews. Its reported worldwide total has reached $927 million.
