Leaders honour police martyrs' sacrifices
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday paid tribute to the martyred officers and personnel of the Pakistan Police, praising their sacrifices for the country's peace and security.
"Their exemplary courage, firm dedication and ultimate sacrifice in service of the nation will always inspire pride and command the deepest respect of every citizen of Pakistan," the president said in his message on the Police Martyrs Day observed annually on Aug 4.
The president observed that the country's police force remained at the front lines in fight against crime, terrorism and violent extremism.
"Displaying sound tactical skills during targeted operations, they have proven their professional excellence towards disruption of criminal and extremist networks," he said.
In a separate message, the premier honoured the bravery of the police officers who laid down their lives while defending the nation.
"On the solemn occasion of Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Police, I, on behalf of the Government and the people of Pakistan, pay profound tribute to the brave officers and personnel of Pakistan Police who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty in defence of our beloved homeland," the PM Office media wing quoted the premier as saying.
The prime minister noted that the police force displayed "exceptional professionalism and unflinching resolve" at the forefront of the nation's fight against terrorism, violent extremism, and crime.
