Balochistan CM rules out talks with militants

Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said the situation in Balochistan is neither entirely peaceful nor as bleak as portrayed by some outside observers, arguing that one-sided narratives and negative media coverage undermine the province's image and ongoing development efforts.

Speaking during a recent television interview, Bugti said national media often focuses on security-related incidents while overlooking significant progress in education, healthcare and public administration. He cited the merit-based recruitment of around 17,000 teachers, the revival of government schools, improvements in healthcare services and the launch of youth empowerment initiatives as major achievements of his government.

The Chief Minister said the provincial government is also addressing long-standing administrative challenges by creating smaller administrative units and new divisions to improve governance across Balochistan's vast territory. He said the move would strengthen state institutions and ensure that essential public services reach people living in remote districts more effectively.

On the security situation, Bugti maintained that the international community supports the state rather than non-state actors. He alleged that foreign networks, particularly Indian intelligence agencies, continue to provide funding, training and logistical support to militant groups operating from across the Afghan border.

He acknowledged that Balochistan's extensive borders and difficult terrain present challenges for counter-terrorism operations but stressed that security forces exercise maximum restraint to avoid civilian casualties, unlike militant groups that target innocent people.

Rejecting the possibility of peace talks with armed militant organisations, the Chief Minister said there was no international precedent for negotiating with such groups. However, he reaffirmed the government's willingness to engage in political dialogue with local youth, political parties and community leaders to address legitimate concerns through democratic means.

Bugti also called for national unity on security issues, urging all political parties to build consensus in the country's interest. He appealed to Baloch and Pashtun youth to remain vigilant against hostile propaganda and reaffirmed his government's commitment to lasting peace, transparent governance and sustainable economic development across Balochistan.
