CCD handed political leader's murder probe

The investigation into the murder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdullah Tahir has been handed over to the Crime Control Department (CCD), as investigators continue to pursue multiple leads, including the possibility that the victim's movements were monitored through drones before the killing.

Police sources said the probe was transferred from the investigation wing of Ghalib Market police to the Model Town CCD after investigators identified shooters allegedly involved in the murder. CCD DSP Hasnain Haider will now pursue the investigation along with his team. According to the sources, authorities are reviewing information and evidence regarding alleged drone flights around the victim's residence before the attack to determine whether they were used to monitor his movements.

The investigation has also revealed that the assailants allegedly used a rented vehicle obtained from Gujranwala for the attack. The sources said the vehicle was fitted with a fake registration plate to conceal its identity during the crime and the original number plate was reinstalled afterwards.

The police sources claimed that the alleged mastermind of the killing, Kogi Butt, had fled abroad.
