Faisalabad launches e-bike battery swapping pilot

Faisalabad has launched its first public-sector electric bike battery swapping station as part of efforts to promote cleaner and more sustainable urban transport, officials said.

The pilot project was inaugurated by Commissioner Faisalabad Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh.

The ceremony was attended by General Manager of E-Swapping Company Eugene Qi, E-Swapping Infrastructure In-charge Muhammad Moazzam, Director General Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Muhammad Asif Chaudhry, Additional Commissioners Tanveer Murtaza and Afzal Tarar, Municipal Corporation Chief Officer Usman Ghani, Faisalabad Urban Transport Society (FUTS) Administrator Rahat Ali and other officials.

According to the district administration, the facility allows registered users to exchange a depleted e-bike battery for a fully charged one instead of waiting for their battery to recharge.

Speaking to reporters, the commissioner said the pilot phase includes two battery swapping cabinets, 24 battery charging slots and five electric bikes for riders.

He added that the administration aims to install 50 battery swapping cabinets across Faisalabad by December 2026.

He said the initiative is intended to encourage the use of electric vehicles, reduce air pollution and provide an alternative mode of transport.

Under the system, users can access electric bikes, batteries and the swapping network through a subscription model.

Officials said users can register by downloading the E-Swap mobile application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, submitting the required personal information and completing a verification process.

Subscription payments can be made through digital payment platforms, including online money transfer and banking applications.
