LHC to hear PTI plea for rally

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the scheduling for hearing of a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for permission to organise a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on August 5.

Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf issued the order after removing an objection of the registrar's office over the petition filed by Lahore PTI president Mian Akram Usman.

During the proceedings, the petitioner's counsel argued that the registrar office had objected to the petition on the ground that the petitioner had not first approached the Grievance Redressal Commission.

He requested the court to set aside the objection.

The counsel submitted that the petitioner, being the president of Lahore PTI, had applied to the deputy commissioner on July 22 for permission to organise the rally at Minar-e-Pakistan, but no decision had been made on the request.

He contended that holding a public meeting was a constitutional right of every citizen and political party, requesting the court to direct the deputy commissioner to take a decision on the pending application.

After hearing the arguments, the court removed the objection and ordered that the petition be fixed for regular hearing.
