Smoke from nearby wildfires has been seen close to Château Miraval, the French estate at the centre of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's long-running legal dispute, although the property appears to have escaped damage so far.

According to aerial images obtained by TMZ, smoke could be seen rising near the estate on July 31 while the winery and surrounding buildings remained intact.

The wildfire threat comes as France experiences what has been described as its worst wildfire season in two decades.

The fires have also affected other residents in the region, including George and Amal Clooney, who recently announced they had evacuated their home in Brignoles.

The development follows another chapter in Pitt and Jolie's ongoing legal battle over Château Miraval.

Earlier this year, Jolie opposed Pitt's request for years of her financial records, arguing in a court filing that he had mischaracterised her legal claims.

Pitt's filing sought documents relating to Jolie's income and profit participation payments between 2017 and 2019, arguing that "Jolie has made her alleged financial vulnerability central to her case."

Jolie's legal team disputed that argument, stating, "The issue is not whether Jolie needed the money — the issue is that she was trying to untangle her life and her finances from her controlling and abusive ex-husband. That distinction makes all the difference."

Her lawyers also argued that she "has never alleged that she was in financial distress."
