Bushra seeks bail on health grounds

Seeks suspension of trial court sentence

ISLAMABAD:

Former first lady Bushra Bibi has approached the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) seeking suspension of her trial court sentence and release on bail, citing deteriorating health and medical grounds.

The appeal, filed through her counsel Salman Safdar, names the state and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as respondents. It requests the court to suspend the sentence awarded by the trial court and grant her bail pending the outcome of the appeal.

In the petition, Bushra Bibi contends that her health has deteriorated during imprisonment, stating that she developed an eye ailment while in custody and subsequently underwent eye surgery.

The appeal argues that, as a woman suffering from illness, she is entitled to the concession of bail.

It further alleges that she was kept in solitary confinement during her incarceration and was deprived of proper medical treatment and care.
