Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has opened up about his recent engagement to singer Madison Beer, revealing that proposing was more nerve-wracking than making his first NFL start.
Herbert discussed the emotional milestone during a Chargers press conference on July 29, just one day after he and Beer announced their engagement on Instagram. When asked whether the proposal or his first NFL start created more anxiety, the 28-year-old quarterback admitted that the engagement moment was the more stressful experience.
“The proposal for sure,” Herbert said, explaining that he spent a lot of time thinking about how he wanted to ask Beer to marry him before the upcoming NFL season.
The couple first sparked romance rumors in August 2025 after being spotted together in Los Angeles. They later made headlines when Beer supported Herbert during a Chargers game, where the pair were seen together on the sidelines.
Beer previously opened up about their relationship, saying Herbert entered her life at the right time and describing their connection as a mature and meaningful partnership.
Herbert became the Chargers’ starting quarterback during his rookie season in 2020 after replacing Tyrod Taylor. The former Oregon star was selected sixth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and quickly established himself as one of the league’s top young quarterbacks.
As Herbert prepares for another NFL season, he and Beer are celebrating a new chapter together following their engagement announcement.
