Chris Affleck's cause of death revealed after death at 83

Chris Anne Affleck, the mother of actors Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck, died from cardiopulmonary arrest with pancreatic cancer listed as a contributing condition, according to a death certificate.

Chris Affleck died on June 2 at the age of 83 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2025.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, her obituary stated she was given six months to live following the diagnosis. Her family publicly announced her death on July 24.

The death certificate, published on July 28, states that she died from cardiopulmonary arrest while “visiting her son’s residence”.

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma was also listed as a condition that contributed to her death. No autopsy was performed.

Born Christopher Anne Boldt in New York City in December 1942, Affleck graduated from Harvard University and spent 35 years working as a public school teacher before retiring in 2008.

Alongside her career in education, she was a committed civil rights activist and participated in the 1964 Freedom Summer campaign, teaching literacy classes in Mississippi, according to her obituary.

She married Timothy Affleck, and the couple had two sons, Ben and Casey, before divorcing when Ben was around 12 years old.

Affleck played an important role in supporting her sons' early acting careers. According to her obituary, she introduced Ben to casting director Patty Collins, a former Harvard roommate, helping him secure early opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Her obituary stated, “Chris was suitably proud of her descendants’ achievements. But she was delighted when they questioned, defied, or cleverly engaged authority.”

Chris Affleck is survived by her sons, Ben and Casey, and her five grandchildren: Indiana, Violet, Atticus, Fin and Sam.
