‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 trailer reveals Jason Sudeikis coaching women's football team

Apple TV confirmed August return with familiar faces, fresh recruits and completely different coaching challenge

Apple TV has officially released the first full trailer for Season 4 of Ted Lasso, confirming that Jason Sudeikis' optimistic football coach is returning with an entirely new mission. After months of speculation surrounding the future of the Emmy winning comedy, the latest footage reveals Ted stepping into the world of women's football while continuing the uplifting approach that made the series a global phenomenon.

The new season premieres on August 5 and picks up after the events of Season 3, with Ted Lasso taking charge of a second division women's football club. The trailer introduces the fresh challenge almost immediately, showing Ted adapting his familiar coaching philosophy to a new squad while facing unfamiliar obstacles on and off the pitch.

Jason Sudeikis reprises his title role, joined once again by several returning cast members who helped establish the show's enduring popularity. Hannah Waddingham returns as Rebecca Welton, alongside Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard and Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins.

Season 4 also expands the ensemble with several new additions, including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely. Apple TV has not yet revealed extensive details about their characters, although the trailer suggests they will play significant roles as Ted adjusts to coaching a women's team.

Since its debut in 2020, Ted Lasso has grown into one of Apple TV's biggest original productions. The series quickly became a cultural success thanks to its blend of humour, optimism and emotional storytelling. According to previously reported viewing figures, audiences have spent more than 25 billion minutes watching the comedy across its first three seasons, highlighting its extraordinary global reach.

For a long time, many fans believed the story had reached its natural conclusion. Sudeikis previously described the series as a three season arc, while Brett Goldstein, who also serves as a writer on the show, explained that the original creative plan had always been limited to three seasons. That made Apple's announcement of a fourth season in March 2025 one of the most surprising television renewals in recent years.

The series has also become one of television's most decorated modern comedies. Across its first three seasons, Ted Lasso collected 13 Primetime Emmy Awards from 61 nominations. Sudeikis won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in both 2021 and 2022, while Goldstein earned consecutive supporting actor victories. Hannah Waddingham also secured an Emmy for her performance, and Sam Richardson later won for his guest appearance.

The show's first season also made awards history by earning 20 Emmy nominations, setting a record for a debut comedy series at the time. Although that milestone has since been surpassed, it remains a testament to the immediate impact Ted Lasso made after its launch.

The newly released trailer indicates that while the setting has changed, the heart of the series remains intact. Ted continues to rely on encouragement, empathy and belief rather than conventional coaching methods, qualities that have defined the character from the very beginning.
