John Cena has spoken candidly about his hair restoration journey, revealing that two hair transplant procedures involving more than 20 hours of surgery have had a profound impact on both his confidence and career. The actor and former WWE champion shared the details while attending San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, where he was promoting Matchbox.

Speaking about his newly shaved hairstyle, Cena explained that the decision was directly linked to his second hair transplant procedure. He credited hair restoration specialist Dr Ken Anderson with transforming his outlook, saying the treatment had "totally changed my life."

According to Cena, the first procedure lasted 13 and a half hours, while the second required another eight hours, bringing the total surgery time to well over 20 hours. He said returning for a second treatment was an easy decision after being pleased with the initial results. A small remaining area prompted him to seek further improvement, and his doctor recommended shaving his head to achieve the strongest outcome.

Cena explained that a shaved scalp allows surgeons to implant hair follicles more efficiently during follicular unit extraction, commonly known as FUE. He said he trusted the process completely and was confident the results would continue to improve over time.

The actor previously confirmed on social media that he underwent a second round of FUE treatment, thanking the medical team that supported him throughout the process. FUE is a widely used hair restoration technique in which individual hair follicles are transferred from one part of the scalp to thinning areas.

Cena has increasingly used his platform to discuss hair loss without embarrassment, encouraging others to view treatment as a personal choice rather than something to hide. He previously admitted that comments from WWE audiences made him confront his thinning hair instead of ignoring it. Fans frequently displayed signs referring to his receding hairline, which motivated him to research available treatments and seek professional advice.

Beyond surgery, Cena has also described maintaining a routine focused on scalp and hair health. He has spoken about using red light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins and specialist hair care products alongside his transplant procedures.

Reflecting on the experience, Cena said his only regret was waiting so long before taking action. He believes the stigma surrounding male hair loss discouraged him from exploring treatment earlier, despite millions of men experiencing similar concerns. He argued that there should be no shame in choosing medical procedures that improve confidence and wellbeing.

Cena also believes the transformation has benefited his acting career. Different hairstyles allow performers to suit a wider range of characters, and he said restoring his hair has expanded the creative opportunities available to him. Rather than viewing the procedure as cosmetic vanity, he sees it as an investment in both his personal confidence and professional future.
