Neon’s 'A Place in Hell' thriller starring Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones shifts to April 2027 release date

Neon has moved the release date of its upcoming thriller A Place in Hell, starring Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones, from Christmas Day 2026 to April 23, 2027.

Directed by Chloe Domont, the adult drama thriller is expected to become one of Neon’s major theatrical releases, with early test screenings reportedly showing strong audience reactions. The film stars five-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams as a successful criminal defence attorney whose career faces disruption after a younger lawyer, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, enters the firm and challenges her position.

Andrew Scott also stars in the thriller, which explores ambition, competition and power struggles within the legal world. The film has been described as an intense workplace drama centred around two determined women navigating a high-pressure environment.

According to reports from Deadline, Neon and Paramount are planning a coordinated global release strategy for A Place in Hell. Paramount will handle international distribution, while Neon co-financed the project alongside MRC and Republic Pictures. The film is produced by T-Street.

The new April 2027 release date places A Place in Hell in a period that has recently delivered success for female-driven and character-focused films. Recent examples include Challengers, The Drama and Reminders of Him, which performed strongly at the box office.

The thriller marks another major project from Domont, whose feature directorial debut Fair Play premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival before being acquired by Netflix for $20 million.

With Michelle Williams, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Andrew Scott leading the cast, A Place in Hell is positioned as a sophisticated adult thriller aiming to attract audiences ahead of the summer movie season.
