Intercity Transport: Petition filed against bus fares

Petition was filed by an NGO called the United Human Rights Commission Pakistan.

KARACHI:

The transport authorities have been asked to explain why the fares for public buses between cities have gone up.

The petition was filed by an NGO called the United Human Rights Commission Pakistan (not to be confused with the HRCP) through Rana Faiz-ul Hasan who has maintained that the owners are running intercity buses without any approval from the Regional Transport Authority. They overcharge people when it suits them and the authorities don’t take any notice of this, he said.

Chief Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Imam Bux Baloch ordered for the secretary of transport, regional transport authority, motorway police and others to respond in writing. The petitioner argued that bus operators make needed seating arrangements to cater to an increased number of commuters which is something that the motorway police is supposed to check. They are also supposed to check overloading.
