Kelly Ripa is taking a temporary break from Live with Kelly and Mark after undergoing gum graft surgery, with her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos sharing an update on her recovery.

During the July 27 episode of the syndicated daytime talk show, Consuelos revealed that Ripa was absent because she was recovering from the dental procedure and following strict instructions from her doctor. Guest co-host Kevin Jonas joined him on the show as Ripa continues her healing process.

“Kelly sends her love,” Consuelos said while explaining that the Emmy-winning host had undergone gum graft surgery. He added that the procedure was more significant than a minor dental treatment and that Ripa had been advised not to speak while recovering.

Gum graft surgery is a common periodontal procedure used to treat receding gums by adding healthy tissue to protect exposed tooth roots. The treatment can help reduce tooth sensitivity, prevent further gum recession and improve overall oral health.

Consuelos explained that Ripa’s dentist had recommended the procedure several years earlier, but she delayed it while continuing her television career. He said she is now following recovery guidelines, including eating soft foods, avoiding straws and not disturbing the surgical area.

The TV host’s husband also admitted that the procedure has been painful, despite Ripa’s famously high tolerance for discomfort. He said the recovery has required her to follow strict rules, including avoiding talking, which he joked may be one of the hardest challenges for her.

A representative for Live with Kelly and Mark confirmed that Ripa will be away from the show for a week. Several guest hosts, including Kevin Jonas, Mila Kunis, Pamela Adlon and Scott Foley, will fill in during her absence.
