'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Episode 6 recap: Tensions explode during the Butcher's Ball

House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6 delivers a pivotal chapter in the Dance of the Dragons, combining large-scale conflict with political manoeuvring as Queen Rhaenyra’s authority faces growing pressure.

The episode balances action with political intrigue, culminating in the long-awaited death of Ser Criston Cole.

Cole, one of the series’ most divisive figures, is given greater depth as he makes a final stand during the Battle of the Butcher’s Ball.

After fighting through an ambush, the Lord Commander attempts to surrender in exchange for the lives of his men. His offer is rejected, and he is killed by archers before the Riverlanders overwhelm his forces.

Elsewhere, Ser Gwayne Hightower travels to Tumbleton, where he uncovers an assassination plot against Ormund Hightower after imposters infiltrate the camp disguised as Baratheon envoys.

The episode closes with further political uncertainty, including the apparent abduction of Lord Corlys Velaryon’s heir, setting up new challenges as the war for the Iron Throne continues.
