Sandra Bullock is gradually returning to public life and her acting career after stepping away from Hollywood following the death of her longtime partner, Bryan Randall.

Randall died in August 2023 after privately living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for three years. His family disclosed his diagnosis only after his death.

During that time, Bullock cared for him at their home while largely stepping back from the public eye.

Years before his death, Bullock had already spoken about prioritising her personal life over work. During a 2021 appearance on Red Table Talk, she said, "I don't need to be told to be ever-present in the hardest of times. I don't need to be told to weather a storm with a good man."

In March 2022, Bullock also told CBS News that she intended to pause acting.

"Right now, work in front of the camera needs to take a pause," she said, adding that she wanted "to be at home" and "be present, and responsible for one thing."

Although Bullock largely stayed away from Hollywood after Randall's death, she continued raising her children, Louis and Laila, while keeping her professional life out of the spotlight.

Her return began quietly rather than through interviews or public statements. In April 2026, Bullock joined Instagram for the first time, with Jennifer Aniston confirming the account's authenticity by commenting, "She's here!"

The actress also made her first major public appearance in 18 months at CinemaCon alongside Nicole Kidman to promote Practical Magic 2, which is due for release in September.

While presenting the sequel, Bullock reflected on returning to the franchise.

"Returning to the world of Practical Magic felt like we came back to a home that we once lived in," she said.

She has also reunited publicly with Keanu Reeves, first for the Speed-focused 50 MPH podcast and later at a Beyond Fest screening celebrating the film's 30th anniversary.

Speaking on the podcast, Bullock expressed interest in working with Reeves again.

"Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera," she said.

Reeves responded, "It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there's something that wasn't done. I would love to work with you again before our eyes close."
