David Harbour reveals the one thing separating the New Avengers from the originals

David Harbour has teased major conflicts between Marvel’s New Avengers and the original superhero team in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

The actor, who plays Alexei Shostakov, also known as Red Guardian, revealed that the two groups will not always see eye-to-eye when they unite for the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly during San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Harbour explained that the New Avengers will bring a different approach to saving the world compared to the original Avengers. He hinted that their opposing ideas could create tension within the team.

“There’s trouble for sure,” Harbour said, explaining that the two superhero groups have different ways of handling challenges. He added that while the New Avengers believe they are making the right choices, others may not agree with their methods.

Lewis Pullman, who plays Bob Reynolds, also known as Sentry, agreed that the new team’s journey will be unpredictable. The New Avengers were formed after the former Thunderbolts members saved New York City in their standalone Marvel film, leading to the team’s new identity.

The group includes Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova, Ghost, John Walker and Red Guardian. Meanwhile, the original Avengers have been separated following the events of Avengers: Endgame, though Sam Wilson’s Captain America has expressed plans to build a new superhero team.

With Bucky Barnes connected to both groups through his friendships with Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, fans expect him to play a key role in bringing the divided heroes together.

Avengers: Doomsday will feature multiple Marvel teams, including the X-Men from the original Fox films and the Fantastic Four, as they join forces against Victor Von Doom. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
