Is Deadpool joining 'Avengers: Doomsday'? Ryan Reynolds’ surprise Comic-Con appearance fuels rumours

Ryan Reynolds surprised fans with an in-character appearance as Deadpool during Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, adding to ongoing speculation about whether the anti-hero will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

As the cast and filmmakers behind the upcoming Marvel film took to the stage, Reynolds emerged from the audience wearing Deadpool's grey costume, inspired by the character's look in the X-Force comics but not yet seen on the big screen.

Introducing himself as "Ricky", Reynolds joked that he was "cosplaying hard" before asking Paul Rudd, "First question is for Mr. Paul Rudd. Where is Thor, and why was he crying?"

The question referenced a scene from Deadpool & Wolverine in which Chris Hemsworth's Thor appears to cradle a dying Deadpool.

Rudd responded with a joke of his own, saying, "He’s a Wrexham fan?", referring to the Welsh football club co-owned by Reynolds. Reynolds replied, "You know goddamn well why he was crying."

Turning his attention to Avengers: Doomsday, Reynolds asked, "This seems like an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?"

Robert Downey Jr., who is set to portray Doctor Doom after previously playing Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, answered, "It’s in the can, bro. Look around you. Did you bump your head?"

A disappointed Deadpool then asked whether there would be "no additional photography, no overages, hot costs — maybe last minute additions?" before concluding, "No further questions. Happy Hogan, fetch the Audi. We’re leaving."

Reynolds has not been officially announced as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, although reports and fan speculation have continued following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Earlier this month, the actor also confirmed that another Deadpool film is planned.
