Rapper YG detained as police search property in homicide investigation

Rapper YG was briefly detained on Thursday morning while authorities executed a search warrant at one of his properties as part of the ongoing homicide investigation into the death of rapper Drakeo the Ruler.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the search warrant was carried out at around 6:30 a.m. at a commercial property in Burbank belonging to YG, whose real name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson. The operation involved the Burbank SWAT team with assistance from the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Public Information Officer Sgt. Christian Stevens told KTLA that the warrant is connected to the homicide investigation involving Darrell Wayne Caldwell Jr., better known as Drakeo the Ruler.

YG was present when officers arrived and was detained while the search was conducted. He was released after the search concluded. Authorities did not disclose whether any evidence was recovered during the operation.

Drakeo the Ruler was fatally stabbed backstage at the Once Upon a Time festival in Exposition Park in December 2021.

The 28-year-old rapper had been scheduled to perform at the event, which featured headliners including Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and 50 Cent.

Following Drakeo's death, his family filed a $20 million lawsuit against Live Nation, Bobby Dee Presents, C3 Presents and other event promoters.

During a press conference, the family's attorney, James Bryant, said, "Mr. Caldwell was lynched by 40 to 60 people. This would never have happened if those promoters had the proper security protocol. The world lost an amazing artist, a beautiful human being, a father."

According to Complex, speculation has previously circulated linking YG to the incident because he was scheduled to perform at the festival before withdrawing after learning what had happened to Drakeo.

Last month, YG addressed those allegations on his album The Gentlemen's Club in the track "We Know the Truth."

"They say I murdered this, they say I murdered that / Well, if that was true, you'd be a f—ing rat / And I'd be in the cell sleeping on a rack / But too bad that ain't a f—ing fact," he raps.
