'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' set designer husband confessed before suicide, left baby beside dead body

New details have emerged in the deaths of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel set designer Mary Kate Golding and her husband, with police believing he fatally stabbed her before dying by suicide after allegedly confessing to the killing and leaving their infant son beside her body.

According to law enforcement sources cited by Us Weekly, Golding's husband, Joseph Azzaretto, allegedly stabbed the 34-year-old production designer to death inside the basement of their Astoria, Queens, home during the early hours of July. Their 11-month-old son was reportedly left next to his mother's body before Azzaretto fled the home.

Police sources said Azzaretto later contacted both a friend of Golding's and a family member, allegedly admitting to the stabbing. Concerned for Golding's safety, the friend went to the couple's home and discovered the scene before contacting emergency services. The baby was found alive and unharmed.

Officers responding to the residence shortly after midnight found Golding with a fatal stab wound to her back. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Several hours later, police located Azzaretto dead in nearby Astoria Park. Authorities believe he died by suicide, though the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has yet to officially determine the cause and manner of death.

Investigators are treating the case as a possible murder-suicide, although the investigation remains ongoing. No official motive has been announced.

Golding was a respected set designer whose credits included The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Goosebumps, The Flight Attendant, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Hawkeye, Marry Me and The Big Sick. A graduate of New York University, she had recently worked on the upcoming independent film Deep Cuts.

The tragedy has devastated colleagues across the film and television industry, with tributes pouring in for Golding's creativity and talent. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths as family, friends and the entertainment community mourn her loss.
