Johnny Depp’s Ebenezer reveals first look at his haunting Scrooge transformation

Johnny Depp plays Ebenezer Scrooge in Ti West’s dark A Christmas Carol adaptation arriving in cinemas November 2026

Johnny Depp is taking on one of literature’s most iconic characters in Ebenezer, a new horror-inspired adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol directed by filmmaker Ti West.

Paramount Pictures has announced that the ghost story will arrive in theatres on November 13, 2026, with Depp portraying the legendary miser Ebenezer Scrooge.

The first official poster for Ebenezer reveals Depp’s transformation into Scrooge and features the tagline, “The name you know. The story you don’t.” The upcoming movie offers a darker take on the beloved Christmas tale, blending supernatural elements with Ti West’s signature horror style.

Known for directing films including X, Pearl and MaXXXine, West is bringing a fresh vision to Dickens’ Victorian-era story. According to previous reports, the film will follow Scrooge as he embarks on a supernatural journey confronting his past, present and future while searching for redemption.

The cast of Ebenezer also includes Andrea Riseborough, Ian McKellen, Tramell Tillman, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, Charlie Murphy, Arthur Conti and Ellie Bamber.

The screenplay adaptation was written by Nathaniel Halpern, while Stephen Deuters and Jason Forman serve as executive producers.

Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol has been adapted numerous times for film and television, with memorable versions including Scrooge (1951), Scrooged (1988), The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) and A Christmas Carol (2009). However, Ebenezer aims to stand apart by embracing the story’s original ghostly atmosphere and exploring its darker themes.

With Johnny Depp leading the cast and Ti West behind the camera, Ebenezer is expected to bring a unique horror twist to the classic Christmas story.
