Travis Scott reveals Christopher Nolan call left him terrified over ‘The Odyssey’ role

Travis Scott has opened up about the surprising phone call that led to his acting role in The Odyssey, admitting he felt extremely nervous after Christopher Nolan invited him to join the filmmaker's ambitious adaptation of the ancient Greek epic.

Speaking during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Scott recalled receiving a call from Nolan that initially left him puzzled. According to the rapper, his phone simply displayed "Chris", and he assumed the director might have been calling for an entirely different reason.

Scott said he answered expecting a casual conversation before Nolan unexpectedly asked whether he would be interested in acting in a film. The musician admitted he was caught off guard and responded by asking what the role involved.

The rapper explained that he even questioned whether Nolan realised he was primarily known for making music. Scott said the director then outlined his creative vision and explained why he believed the performer was the right choice for the project. The conversation convinced Scott to immediately accept the offer, describing Nolan as someone who has become an important mentor outside the world of filmmaking.

In The Odyssey, Scott portrays Demodocus, the bard who narrates Odysseus' journey and becomes the first performer audiences see and hear in the film. Although the role marks a significant acting opportunity, Scott admitted the experience initially felt intimidating.

He revealed that he expected to perform scenes alongside extras but instead found himself sharing the set with an ensemble featuring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson. Scott said he felt "nervous as" he stepped into the production because he believed he had little acting experience compared with the established cast.

Despite those concerns, Scott praised both Nolan and his fellow actors for making him feel comfortable throughout filming. He said everyone on set helped create an encouraging atmosphere that allowed him to focus on learning from the experience while observing Nolan's directing style up close.

The collaboration also extended beyond acting. Scott recorded the original closing credits song, "When I'm Home", alongside James Blake. The track was produced by Ludwig Göransson, who composed the film's score, while Nolan also received a co writing credit on the song.

Nolan recently explained why Scott appealed to him creatively. The director said he wanted the film to acknowledge that Homer's story was originally passed down through oral poetry before being written, drawing a connection between that tradition and modern rap performance. That artistic idea helped shape Scott's casting in the production.

The project reunites Scott with Nolan after they previously collaborated on the soundtrack for Tenet, which featured Robert Pattinson in a leading role. Their latest partnership has expanded beyond music, giving Scott one of his highest profile acting roles to date.

Since its release, The Odyssey has generated widespread attention for its large ensemble cast, practical filmmaking techniques and strong box office performance.
