Elliot Page admits he was 'terrified' to play Sinon in Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'

Elliot Page has revealed that accepting a role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey was one of the most intimidating decisions of his career, admitting he was "terrified" to portray the pivotal character of Sinon in the filmmaker's epic adaptation of Homer's classic poem.

Speaking about the experience, Page explained that the nerves had little to do with the scale of the production and everything to do with the importance of the character. Sinon is the cunning Greek soldier whose deception convinces the Trojans to bring the wooden horse inside their city walls, ultimately sealing Troy's fate.

Page said the role demanded a level of confidence and manipulation unlike anything he had played before, making the performance especially daunting.

"I was terrified," the actor admitted, explaining that stepping into such a pivotal role in one of history's most celebrated stories came with enormous pressure.

The actor also praised Christopher Nolan's direction, saying the filmmaker created an environment where actors felt supported while still being challenged to deliver their best work. Page described Nolan as meticulous and collaborative, allowing him to gradually settle into the demanding role.

Although Sinon's screen time is relatively limited, the character's actions trigger one of the film's defining sequences: the fall of Troy. Nolan expanded the Trojan Horse storyline by drawing not only from Homer's works but also from Virgil's Aeneid, giving Sinon a more substantial presence than in many previous adaptations.

Page reunited with Nolan for The Odyssey more than 15 years after starring as Ariadne in Inception. The director has previously described the actor as "incredible," saying he was delighted to collaborate with Page again on what has become the biggest production of his career.

Released on July 17, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton and John Leguizamo. The film has become a global box office success and one of the most talked-about releases of the year, with Page's performance earning praise for bringing tension and vulnerability to the man whose lie changed the course of the Trojan War.
