Fans of Heated Rivalry may have more content to look forward to before the highly anticipated second season arrives.
According to a report from Deuxmoi, sources claim that the popular Crave and HBO Max hockey romance series is allegedly developing a standalone two-hour special connected to the world of the show.
Based on Rachel Reid’s Game Changers book series, Heated Rivalry follows hockey rivals Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, whose intense competition develops into a complicated romantic relationship. The series became a major hit after launching on Crave and later reaching international audiences through HBO Max.
A second season of Heated Rivalry is already in development, with creator Jacob Tierney confirming that the team is working on new episodes. Production is expected to begin in 2026, with the next season targeting a 2027 release.
While details about the alleged two-hour special remain unknown, fans have speculated that it could explore side characters, additional storylines from Rachel Reid’s novels, or provide a bridge between seasons. Earlier comments from Crave executives also suggested interest in creating standalone content within the series’ universe.
If confirmed, the Heated Rivalry special would give viewers another chance to revisit the characters and expand the story before season 2 arrives.
